Basics

Thursday 15th August
York St John University

Please book onto the morning (10-1.30) or afternoon session (2-5.30pm)

You can drop in for however long you want, join in some of the activities or not. There are some scheduled activities as some people prefer that, but there’s no pressure to get involved. Some scheduled activities require booking.

Meet us!

Sometimes arriving at events can be intimidating and anxiety provoking so let me introduce myself a little. I’m Helen (she/her), a disabled bisexual woman who is also chair of York Disability Rights Forum and one of the people who have pulled together Quiet Pride!

I will share my personal phone number with attendees who have booked so that you can get in touch if you’re lost or want to meet up with me somewhere else on campus first.

Helen is a white, female power wheelchair user, sitting in front of a brick wall. On her knee is a cuddly deer with a multicoloured eyepatch on

In the picture is Clive the deer, who likes to think of himself as the Quiet Pride mascot…!

We strongly encourage you to bring whatever it is that helps you feel safer, more relaxed and more able to enjoy Quiet Pride. For me this is Clive, for you it might be noise cancelling headphones.

Hilary is another one of the organisers. If you’ve got any questions or need directions, please feel free to ask her!

Hilary is standing in front of some ivy, she's wearing a navy tshirt with lots of colourful images on.

We will also have Family Fund volunteers, identifiable by their t-shirts, who will also be able to help you with anything.

Basic Accessibility

  • Level access
  • Lots of seating
  • BSL interpreters booked
  • More detailed information including photos and videos are available on our dedicated accessibility page

Other bits and pieces

  • If you have symptoms of covid, or have tested positive, please stay home
  • If you want to wear a mask, do it and if you don’t want to wear one, please respect other people’s choice. We will have the blue disposable face masks to hand as well.
  • There are hand sanitising points around the building and we’re bringing some too.

In general, we’re assuming you’re all going to be quiet and respectful and we want you to feel safe, whatever that means to you.

The event is not catered, although basic drinks will be available. There is a canteen on campus (opening hours to be confirmed) and there are vending machines.

Please note, York St John University is a non smoking campus, this includes vaping.
